New BEYOND Topic for Advent

I don’t know about you, but as much as I love Christmas, there’s only so many times I can listen to “Jingle Bell Rock” and “Holly Jolly Christmas” without going crazy!

Unfortunately, so much of what passes as Christmas music these days simply misses the point of what this time of year is about for Christians: celebrating the birth of our Emmanuel, God With Us, Jesus our Lord!

That’s why, this Advent for our Beyond services on Thursday evenings, we’re going to focus on some of the great Christmas hymns and carols that you might not hear as much on the radio, but which have so much to teach us.

From “O Come, O Come Emmanuel” to “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” to “Joy to the World,” we’ll look at the biblical foundations of these songs and consider why understanding their messages might lead us to a deeper appreciation of Christmas than ever before.

Oh yes, and we just might do a little bit of singing, too!

So please consider joining us, beginning Thursday, December 1st at Spencer UMC, as we celebrate the Songs of Christmas that have been passed down to us.

As always, there will be a time for sharing light supper and Christian fellowship together starting at 6:15 pm, with worship at 7.

In the midst of a season that’s so hectic and busy for our society, why not make remembering the reason for the season a priority?

I look forward to seeing you there!

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Matt
